Meditations

Forty Dhamma Talks

Forty Dhamma Talks is available to read on line or as a download from Access to Insight.

I read this book more or less in conjunction with another, similar work by Bhikkhu Thanissaro: The Wings to Awakening. The difference is that Wings to Awakening is a dhammatalk structured by a Dhamma (unit of the Buddha's System) explaining that Dhamma, whereas Meditations is a series of original dhamma talks. Both provide a view of Bhikkhu Thanissaro's understanding of Dhamma which is not explicitly available through his sutta translations. While in theory a sutta translation should stand on its own merits, given translation bias it is helpful to have views such as this of a translator's personal thinking about the goal and the system for attaining that goal.
