| | | Can You See Misery? If you can see the misery of the present
existence, you will want no more existences.
CheerfulnessAs long as you do not think of old age, disease, and death, you will remain cheerful.
Children Are Treasures
Children are treasures. Sons and daughters are born to adorn the world. They could do a great service to the entire world and to the Buddha’s dispensation.
Choose the Best CourseOne cannot possibly achieve improvement and progress merely by knowing about things; one must choose the best course and pursue it.
Co-operationOne cannot achieve anything only by one’s ability: only
co-operative effort will produce achievement.
CompetitionConceitContemptContentmentThe Buddha said that contentment is the greatest treasure. In olden days people lived on frugal meals, wore home-woven cloths, and yet were happy and contented. Happiness does not result from wealth, only from contentment.
CorruptionAs the jackal growls proudly over the food left by the lion, the infatuated one who delights in existence is corrupted by the bribes people leave for him. It is improper for an ordinary person to gloat over what a noble one has discarded.
Customs and CultureYou can acquire culture from parents and teachers, and their writings. You cannot acquire it only from customs and traditions.
