CONFERENCES:

The first annual conference of SLABS will be held from November 15-16, 2003 in Kandy. This year’s conference will be organised by the Peradeniya forum of Buddhist Studies, Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies, University of Peradeniya.

Papers are invited on any theme pertaining to Buddhist Studies.

All are encouraged to present papers. The deadline for paper proposals or panel proposals will be September 15, 2003. For complete details of the conference please see our next issue.

A conference entitled ‘The Contexts of Buddhism: An Appraisal of the work of Richard Gombrich’ will be held on September 18-19, 2004 in St. Hugh’s College, Oxford. The conference is being held to mark the retirement of Prof. Richard. Gombrich, Boden Professor of Sanskrit, University of Oxford. There will be four panels over two days, two devoted to Gombrich’s contributions to the understanding of early Buddhism and Hinduism and two or more to contemporary themes.
