hello
In 1988 families were encouraged to bring 'special' stones to the monastery to build a cairn. A reasonable size pile of stones had accumulated, and Sister Siripanya started to turn it into a stupa with the assistance of two enthusiastic young helpers. During the following year's camp the stupa became dedicated to a special purpose.

A clear spring morning with daffodils clustered around the trees in
the Buddha grove. This area was specially planted as a planned
configuration of species particularly chosen for their significance to
the folk-tradition of Britain. The white stupa can be seen
in the distance.

Little Declan had arrived at the Camp with signs of what was thought to be 'flu and was taken to the hospital just to be sure - but, before the end of the week of Camp, he had died from a brain tumour he had been born with. His body was laid out in the Dhamma hall and the families gathered with the Sangha to pay their respects. Declan was cremated and his ashes interred inside the stupa which is circumambulated by campers each year.
