The seated figure of the Buddha faces East: toward the dawn; the point of birth,
of beginnings, the arising of light and awakenedness. In the Chapel of Rest the reclining
image faces the West: toward the sunset; the point of death, of endings,
of passing away and cessation.

The image was officially named by the Supreme Patriarch of Thailand as the: Phra Buddha Dhammacakra Amaravati - The Buddha of the Deathless Realm Who 'Turns the Wheel' of the Teachings.
