Thera of Pagan. He wrote a Páli grammar, the Saddaniti, in 1154 (Gv.63; SvD.v.1238; Sás.74). He was tutor to King Narapatisithu of Pagan (Bode, 16).
The Gandha-Vamsa calls him a native of Jambudípa (p.67), but his name occurs among the famous residents in the retired monastery of the northern plateau above Pagan, the cradle of Páli-Burmese literature. Forchhammer Report, p.2; Jardine Prize Essay, p.34.
