a mythical king, who succeeded Mahápatápa and was himself succeeded by Mahápanáda. Mhv.ii.4; Dpv.iii.7.
one of the chief Yakkhas to be invoked by the Buddha's followers in time of need (D.iii.204). He is also mentioned in the Mahásamaya Sutta (D.ii.258). Buddhaghosa says (DA.ii.688) that Panáda was a Gandhabba.
