A minister of Magadha, who, with Vassakára, was in charge of the fortifications of Pátaligáma, built in order to repel the Vajjís. These two are always mentioned together.
They invited the Buddha to a meal, and, after his departure, named the gate by which he had left the city Gotamadvára, and the ford by which he crossed the Ganges, Gotamatittha. Vin.i.228f; D.ii.86f.; Ud.viii.6.
