The Buddha tells the monks of seven rules of conduct, the observance of which won for Sakka his celestial sovereignty. There are the maintenance of parents, reverence for the head of the family, the use of gentle language, avoidance of slander, delight in renunciation, generosity and amiability, the speaking of truth and avoidance of anger.
