  Yes. The Aboriginal poet and novelist Colin Johnson spent seven years in
India from 1968 to 1975, three of them as a Buddhist monk. Most of his time
there was spent in the Calcutta and Darjeeling area working for the Maha Bodhi
Society and studying Pali. He was ordained in 1971 at Bodh Gaya, and also
studied vipassana meditation with Goenka and Tibetan Buddhism with Kalu
Rinpoche.
