Temples dedicated to this form of syncratic religion may be found in the Sydney suburbs of Glebe and Alexandria. Two temples catering for the small number of Chinese Buddhists are the Chinese Buddhist Association in Dixon Street in Sydney's Chinatown and the Hwa Tsang Monastery at Homebush West. A large Buddhist complex, for the Chinese community, is currently under construction at Wollongong, south of Sydney. The Wollongong Buddhist Association, which is affiliated with the Taiwan based Fo Kwang Shan organisation, is responsible for this project to be constructed on a ten hectare site, which will comprise three prayer halls, two meditation halls, twenty classrooms, a dining hall for 500 people as well as sleeping quarters. Fo Kwang Shan also maintains centres in Hong Kong and Los Angeles. This latter centre was the venue for the 16th Conference of the World Fellowship of Buddhists in 1988, the first time that it was held outside Asia.
