By 'soul' one generally refers to a non-changing entity which is within one's 'self' when living, and which separates from the body at death. Or generally known as the 'spiritual' part of Man. According to the 'Paticcasamuppada' and other teachings of the Buddha, Buddhists understand the life and death processes as a continuum which has three qualities (thilakkhana) viz.:- o (Anicca) Impermanence o (Dukkha) Unsatisfactoriness o (Anatta) Non-Ego, non-self etc. In everyday language Buddhists refer to a self and a person, however when one undertakes 'vipassana' meditation one realizes that in the ultimate analysis, there is no 'self' to be reborn, but only a process of change of physical and psychical phenomena, which is referred to as 're-birth'.
