A.  'Volition is Action'

    So, If by 'Abortion' is meant the wilfull destruction of a conceived
    unborn child, then abortion amounts to breaking the first precept.
 
    If on the otherhand, due to compassionate reasons a qualified medical
    practioner performs a surgical operation which results in the death
    of a foetus, this is different. The motive here is based on compassion and
    loving kindness, and as such the action does not constitute breaking
    of the first precept.
