Nibbána and Anattá - Contents

The text of this essay is taken from the author's typescript, which is more accurate and complete than the published version. Footnotes belonging to the original text are indicated by letters. The author's later comments, written in pencil on the typescript, are included as numbered footnotes. Those numbered footnotes or parts thereof which are in square brackets are editorial. 'Nibbána and Anattá' first appeared in The Maha Bodhi, in two parts. Part one appeared in the December 1953 issue, pp. 416-423, and included all of Part I and the opening section of Part II, as far as 'What follows does not pretend to be more than a tentative opinion: it is a suggestion rather than a verdict.'
