    Cittaviveka
    Lay Practice Forums
An opportunity for lay supporters to come together with the Sangha to share and discuss their own experiences. They are held on Sundays at 2 p.m. The three we have held so far have been well attended and much appreciated.

  • March 12th. - Practice and relating to a partner.
  • April 9th. - Using a Buddhist tradition.
  • May 7th. - Pain and disease.
  • June 4th. - Having fun.

  • Going For Refuge
The Sangha are organising a special ceremony, at Chithurst on January 1st., in which lay people can formally go for Refuge and take the Precepts as a way of dedicating or reaffirming their commitment to the Buddhist path. To find out more or to join in, please contact: Stan De Frietas on 0491873 855.
    Walks Around Chithurst
Nick Scott will be leading two or three all day walks in the countryside around Chithurst for lay supporters to spend some informal time together. Meet at the monastery at 9:30; back at the monastery in time for tea at 5:30. Bring a waterproof, suitable footwear and a packed lunch.
The first will be Saturday April 29th -'Oak woods and Bluebells'.
We are also hoping to arrange a picnic for summer.

    Teaching Engagements
Due to the demolition project in March and April the Amaravati Sangha will not be undertaking any teaching engagements outside the monastery. There will still be regular Dhamma talks on Observance days and after the Saturday evening pujas. The Sangha will resume its normal teaching programme towards the end of May; dates will be announced in the April edition of the Newsletter.

    SEVEN WHITE BIRDS
    Here I am again
    standing on your doorstep
with a flower in my hand

    Tonight everyone in the village
    is drunk
    with moonlight

    A white owl glides
    over my head
    What in the world
    can I hold on to

    After years of wandering
    I come home
    The egg you hand me
    is still warm

    Seven white birds
    come to the pond
    They sing
    a simple song

    Between each breath we take
    there is a well
    and a dipper

    Wind stirs the leaves
    Shadows dance
    over the earth
