With great care the second glass panel is secured in place.

Behind the main shrine of the Temple is a small shrine room, the 'Chapel of Rest,' a place where the recently deceased can be honoured and remembered by their friends and relatives. Behind where the coffin lies is a large two-panel glass screen on which the Reclining Buddha has been engraved by Mae Chee Renu. It is a reproduction of the large stone image in Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka showing the position the Buddha took up in his own final hours.

This image encourages us to reflect on both the ever-present inevitability of our own death and the possibility of final liberation. The balance of these two reflections is not to arouse dread or an unsupported faith, but spiritual urgency, samvega, the motivation to begin, persist with, and accomplish the work of the heart.
