P saülaïghya, with fn: ullaïghya. Dh: saülaüghaya; Vutt. reads ullaïgiy-
P fn: vipuleti ca.
V: -jau
P fn: ardham. V prints ca after this, but it looks like it has been crossed out.
P: ca, with fn: tu.
P omits.
The metre titles do not occur as headings in the text, but have been extracted from the descriptions for ease of reference.
S: kathità.
Dh: omits this verse by mistake.
P: bhavati yadãmukteyam- , with fn: dalaü yadãyam-uditaivam; [dalaü] yadãyam-uditeyam [this footnote has been misplaced in the text]. V: bhavati yadi mukteyam- .
The translation of this line in Vutt. reads: yadi pubbaddhasamànaü dalam-itara¤-coditàyam-ariyàgãti, from which we can see that Ven. Saïgharakkhita was reading a manuscript with both dala & udita in it.
P omits.
Dh: kalàþ tà÷-ca; S: kalàþ ùaó ca, with fn: [kalàs]tà÷-ca.
Dh: ÷eùaü tv-aupacchandasikaü; P fn: -upacchandasikam; tv-aupacchandasikam. Chøà calls the metre: Aupacchandasaka.
S: -uditaiva.
P fn: yasya.
P fn: ayugmagà.
Dh: càruhàsinã; Chøà: Càruhàsinã.
P omits.
The section on Vaktra has been transferred to Visamavuttaniddesa in Vuttodaya. In Chøà it appears at the beginning of the Vtta section (Pa¤camo 'dhyàyaþ).
S: nàdyàntasau.
S, P fn: ayujor-. S has fn: ojayorjena.
P fn: saiva tasya.
S joins this to the previous line, so that it reads: caturthàn-no etc.
V omits this line, perhaps by mistake, as it is included in the Vyàkhyà.
S: ity-anuùñup-prakaraõam; P omits.
P: dviguõita-, with fn: dvika[gunita-]; at the end text reads dhtir-iti, with fn: -iha. Dh also reads -acaladhtir-iti; V reads dviguõita-, and adds ca after -iha. S has the reading printed here, and Vutt. reads: Dvikavihatavasulahur-acaladhiti-r-iha, from which we can see that Ven. Saïgharakkhita was also translating a manuscript with both dvika- & -iha.
S: lagontyaþ; V: lgàntyaþ. P fn: navamo làntam; navamo lgo 'ntam; navamo lgantam.
V, P: jo lnàv-athà- . P has fn: jo nlau, nànlau. Vutt. reads jonlà 'thavàõõavà visiloko.
P, Dh, S fn: upacitrà navame parayukte. S also has another reading: aùñàbhyo galyàd-upacitrà; P fn: navame bhavati guràv-upacitrà. Vutt: galyàññhahi ce sàv-upacitrà. There is a lot of confusion in the readings here.
P, Dh: yutair- . S: -vidhilakùmayutair- , which spoils the sense and the metre.
P -yuktaü-, with fn: -sahitaü.
P fn: lo.
P omits.
The Dvipàda section is omitted in Vuttodaya. Note that the metres in this section are varieties of the âryà group of metres.
The descriptions of øikhà and Kha¤jà, which follows, occur in the Ardhasamavtta section in Chøà, and agrees with the description given here.
A second metre called øikhà occurs as a variety of Gãtyàryà, there it is said to have 32 màtrà in both lines, and as having one pàda all light syllables, and one pàda all heavy. If the 1st pàda is made up of light syllables, the name Jyotã is used; if the 1st pàda is all heavy syllables, then the name Saumyà.
The metre as described here, has a Gãti line in prior position, and an âryàgãti line in the posterior position.
P fn: -yugulakam- . 47 P fn: -niciti. 48 V, Dh: vinimayavinihita÷akalayugalakalitapada-; P: -÷akalayugalalaghulalita- (incorrect metrically), with fn: -kalita- [in place of -lalita-]; P also has fn: -gaõa- [in place of -guõa-]; S: -÷akalayugalakalitapada- (which is incorrect metrically), with fn: -laghulalitapada- . 49 This verse has a Gãti structure. SED says that Kha¤jà is the name of several metres: `one consisting of 2 x 28 syllables + 1 long and 30 short syllables + 1 long; another containing 30 short syllables + 1 long and 28 short syllables + 1 long; another containing 2 x 36 short syllables + one Amphimacer [i.e. a ragaõà]'. None of those descriptions fit the metre found here, and none of the variants would fit them either. 50 Chøà calls this metre: Saumyà, and says it is a species of øikhà. It has the structure of an âryàgãti verse. 51 Chøà calls this metre: Cålikà. The verse has an Upagãti structure. 52 P fn: -iha rucirà. P reads: dalayugalakta-, which gives one syllable too many. V reads the same as P in the text, but dalayugakta-, as here in the Vyàkhyà, which must be correct to fit the description. 53 P, V, Dh omit. 54 P omits; Dh: iti ÷rã kedàrabhaññaviracite vttaratnàkare dvitãyo 'dhyàyaþ.
